Vodafone announces ‘regional first’ 5G MiFi

29 Nov 2019

Vodafone Qatar has claimed the launch of the Gulf region’s first commercially available 5G MiFi mobile hotspot device. Vodafone is offering Inseego’s 5G MiFi M1100 device, enabling Qatari customers to ‘enjoy the power of 5G on their existing phones and other devices even if they are not 5G-enabled’, the operator’s press release declared. The mobile hotspot can connect up to 16 devices simultaneously over Vodafone Qatar’s 5G NR non-standalone cellular network, which covers 70% of the capital Doha and ‘key locations’ across the country. The cellco offers unlimited data 5G plans and recently announced its first 5G roaming service agreement, between Qatar and the UK.

Vodafone Qatar is also accelerating the rollout of high speed fibre access infrastructure in over 20 locations around Qatar, and last week introduced its new ‘GigaTV’ IPTV/OTT service, now included in all Vodafone ‘GigaHome’ fibre subscriptions. GigaTV includes a set-top box, live TV channels, catch-up features and on-demand content such as movies plus the mobile GigaTV app.
