5G trials are now underway on Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, courtesy of Batelco-backed Sure.
Sure Guernsey has revealed that it started trialling mobile 5G technology in Vale and St. Peter Port on 15 November and has invited hundreds of customers to take part and help to evaluate how 5G can benefit the lives of islanders and local businesses. The trial will last three months. Justin Bellinger, chief digital officer at Sure Guernsey, commented: ‘Sure is very much committed to Guernsey and 5G will form an integral part of our comprehensive five-year investment plan for the Bailiwick.’
For its part, Sure Isle of Man has announced that its own 5G trial network also went live on 15 November and will run until 2020. The trial is taking place in Douglas, and covers areas within and around Tromode, Woodbourne Road and the Central Business District.
Finally, Sure Jersey has confirmed that it also initiated 5G trials in ‘mid-November’ in St. Helier and expects to stage a commercial 5G launch in 2020.
