PLDT-Smart to use 5G at Southeast Asian Games

19 Nov 2019

Filipino telecoms giant PLDT Inc. says its mobile arm Smart Communications plans to use 5G for the digital broadcast of the forthcoming Southeast Asian Games as it progresses the ongoing rollout of the next generation technology across the country. The Philippine Star writes that local TV broadcasters TV5 and Cignal this week launched the ‘Sama-Sama sa SEA Games’ campaign that will cover the official broadcast of the multi-sport event, supported by Smart.

Oscar Reyes, PLDT Senior VP and Head of Consumer Business-Individual Group, said the campaign ‘aims to offer consumers a new experience as it will introduce some 5G technology features, such as freezing videos and offering 360 degree angles of videos, which are available for users with 5G-capable phones in Smart 5G cities’.
