15 Nov 2019

US cableco Mediacom Communications has announced that it now has more than 50,000 residential and business customers subscribing to its gigabit broadband services. Mediacom began rolling out gigabit connectivity in 2017, as part of a three-year, USD1 billion capital investment strategy. By the end of that year, Mediacom says it had become the first major US cable company to launch gigabit speeds across its national network. John Pascarelli, Mediacom’s Executive Vice President of Operations, commented: ‘The growing popularity of gigabit internet in our markets is proof positive that our fibre-rich network has become a true economic and social engine for the small cities and towns we serve across America.’

Mediacom claimed 1.316 million broadband subscribers as of 30 September 2019, making it the fifth largest cable provider in the US. The cableco operates in 22 states and claims to be the leading gigabit broadband provider to smaller markets primarily in the Midwest and Southeast.
