Digicel Trinidad and Tobago has upgraded its networks with LTE-A technology using an undisclosed block of spectrum it says was awarded by the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) in July 2019. The initial upgrade has targeted the cellco’s 70 most congested sites, with coverage set to be extended to a further 40 heavy-usage sites in the coming months. Maximum download speeds over the new network can reach 190Mbps, Digicel noted.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Digicel launched its long-awaited LTE network in July 2018 using the 700MHz and 2100MHz bands. The network initially covered north-west, east and central Trinidad, as well as east Tobago, with Digicel achieving a nationwide 4G footprint by November 2018.
