Thaicom agrees to return 3400MHz-3700MHz spectrum

11 Nov 2019

Satellite business service provider Thaicom has agreed to vacate the 3400MHz-3700MHz spectrum range, ahead of the forthcoming spectrum auction for 5G airwaves in 2020. Thaicom chief executive Anant Kaewruamgvongs said that the company – owned and operated by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) – agreed to cooperate with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on the spectrum recall, with the NBTC set to determine the compensation for affected companies by appointing three academic institutions to conduct a study on the matter. Thaicom’s 3400MHz-3700MHz concession (mainly used for the operation of the Thaicom 5 satellite) expires in September 2021.
