11 Nov 2019

Iran’s state-backed utility company Tavanir is planning to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology which will be offered on a wholesale basis to ISPs. A report from Payvand which cites the state news agency IRNA, says that Tavanir has already selected a contractor to carry out the deployment, which is being undertaken alongside an upgrade of its electricity distribution and metering systems. A spokesperson for the utility firm said it expects to install 30,000km of fibre-optic infrastructure across Iran. Tavanir already leases capacity on its fibre backbone network to telcos.
