InterSAT rolling out SkyFi broadband across sub-Saharan Africa with Hughes

UAE-based InterSAT has selected the Hughes JUPITER System to power its new ‘SkyFi’ satellite broadband service for consumers and micro/small-to-medium sized enterprises (MSME/SME) across sub-Saharan Africa. Hanif Kassam, chief executive officer at InterSAT, said: ‘The JUPITER System provides InterSAT with a significant competitive edge as we expand affordable, high-speed SkyFi service throughout Africa.’ According to Hughes, its High-Throughput Satellite-based JUPITER system is the most widely deployed VSAT platform in the world, operating on six continents using C-band, Ku-band or Ka-band bandwidth to support services including broadband internet/intranet access, community Wi-Fi Hotspots, cellular backhaul and airborne services.
