Orange Romania has announced that it is the first Orange Group subsidiary to commercially launch 5G mobile services. The fifth-generation network has gone live in three cities, namely: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Iasi, while other locations are set to be added to the operator’s footprint throughout 2020 and beyond. According to Orange, the network is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, while average speeds are likely to be in the region of 600Mbps.
Ramon Fernandez, CEO delegate of Orange in charge of Finance, Performance and Europe, commented: ‘I am delighted that Romania, one of the most dynamic telecoms markets in Europe, is the first country within our global footprint to have achieved this important milestone. Orange Romania is important for us, both in terms of investments and driving innovation, with more than EUR3.5 billion (USD3.9 billion) invested since we entered the market.’
