Claro Brasil teamed up with Ericsson to trial 5G mobile services at the Allianz Parque stadium in Sao Paulo on 20 October. The two companies achieved downlink transmission speeds in excess of 1Gbps, using a temporary 3.5GHz spectrum permit granted by the National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel). The trial featured a real-time holographic transmission.
TeleGeography notes that Claro and Ericsson first tested 5G in Brazil back in October 2016, using the 15GHz band. The cellco is expected to launch 5G in 2020, following Anatel’s multi-band 5G spectrum auction.
