US-based wireless transport solutions provider Aviat Networks has been selected by Globe Telecom of the Philippines to supply its WTM 4800 E-band and multi-band radio platform to support the telco’s 5G rollout in the country. The WTM 4800 solution is described as ‘the industry’s only single box, multi-band solution which lowers total cost of ownership (TCO) significantly, compared to alternative multi-band solutions’ and will be used to augment Globe’s backhaul requirements for 5G and Enterprise ‘at the lowest cost per Gbps’, said the firm’s head of network transport, Constantine A Serafica. Further, the operator will also use the vendor’s proprietary ‘Aviat Design’ tool for multi-band link planning, allowing it to simplify network planning of multi-band links, alongside Aviat’s ‘NETCONF/YANG’ interfaces to support its automation and software defined networking (SDN) initiatives.
