7 Oct 2019

The government of Burkina Faso has ratified a credit agreement signed on 20 June 2019 with Bank of China Limited Shenzhen Branch to finance phase one of Onatel’s national fibre-optic network, reports Agence Ecofin. The Chinese lender is providing 60% of the USD77.35 million financing for phase one of the project, with the remainder secured from BNP Paribas.

Huawei began work in December 2017 on the first phase of the 2,001km network, which is intended to increase broadband connectivity across the country by linking the country’s main cities and neighbouring countries.
