Telma awards network upgrade contract to Ericsson

2 Oct 2019

Telecom Malagasy (Telma) has revealed it awarded a network upgrade contract worth almost USD100 million to Ericsson in July, reports Agence Ecofin. The four-year deal will extend and optimise Telma’s core network and RAN in order to increase capacity, boost data rates and enhance the mobile customer experience, and also provides for the deployment of 2,000 mobile sites to complete its network footprint. The deal also envisages the deployment of ‘4.5G’ and 5G sites in high density areas. Telma CEO Patrick Pisal Hamida explained the investment is in line with the company’s ambition to ‘provide all users in Madagascar with affordable, high-quality and easy-to-use broadband internet access and communication services’.
