Poland’s Cyfrowy Polsat Group is to merge two of its wireless units, Polkomtel and its 100% subsidiary 420MHz licensee Nordisk Polska. A report from Telko.in says the two firms are to be combined, with a view to integrating Nordisk’s 420MHz operation with Polkomtel’s services. Nordisk’s spectrum is currently used for CDMA-based mobile dispatch and telemetry services, plus wireless internet access in rural areas with poor cellular coverage. Nordisk also acts as a reseller for Polkomtel’s 4G LTE services.
Polkomtel, which offers services under the Plus brand and acquired Nordisk in 2009, has been trialling LTE technology for dispatch services in the 420MHz band and is considering extending Nordisk’s spectrum licence, which is due to expire next year. The Nordisk Polska network incorporates 576 locations to give it nationwide coverage.
