Brazilian telecoms operator Oi has revealed plans to stage its latest 5G trial at the ‘Rock In Rio’ music event, which commences today (27 September). The event-wide test will be conducted in association with the telco’s Chinese vendor partner, Huawei, and has been billed as one of Brazil’s largest 5G trials to date. Attendees will be encouraged to utilise 5G handsets, while the network will also support live coverage of the likes of Bon Jovi, Nickelback and The Scorpions.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in March this year Oi staged its first 5G test in Buzios, a resort town in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The trial, which was also carried out in conjunction with Huawei, utilised a 100MHz block of spectrum in the 3.5GHz band. More recently, Oi notched gigabit download speeds in July during a 5G demo at the Game XP 2019 event in Rio de Janeiro.
