US mobile market leader Verizon Wireless will launch its ‘5G Ultra Wideband’ service in an eleventh location, New York City, on 26 September, it has been revealed. Coverage will initially be available in parts of uptown, downtown and midtown Manhattan, as well as selected parts of Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, when Verizon’s service goes live, New York City will boast operational 5G networks from all four national mobile operators. T-Mobile claimed first blood in the Big Apple when it launched 5G on 28 June. AT&T’s rival service went live on 6 August, while Sprint activated 5G in NYC on 27 August.
