Fixed and mobile operator A1 Croatia has signed a framework contract with locally based vendor and long-term equipment partner Ericsson Nikola Tesla (ENT), covering the development of its radio access network (RAN) until end-2023. The agreement includes the modernisation and extension of A1’s infrastructure based on the latest solutions from the Ericsson Radio System (ERS) portfolio, and will include 5G and IoT functionality.
Tomislav Makar, Senior Technology Director for A1, commented: ‘We lead the implementation of new broadband technologies, which we presented earlier this year with the first demonstration of 5G technology and having introduced gigabit speeds in our mobile network. In collaboration with Ericsson Nikola Tesla we wish to transform state-of-the-art technology into quality and user satisfaction, with the aim of implementing a strategy of gigabit broadband on a national level.’
Part of the A1 Telekom Austria Group, A1 Croatia launched under the name VIPnet in July 1999 and has been working with ENT since then. Having taken its parent’s A1 branding in 2018, the telco claims second place in the country’s mobile and fixed internet markets behind Hrvatski Telekom (HT).
