Telefonica Espana (Movistar) has confirmed that it will launch VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling functionality later this month. The upgrade will be made available free of charge to all users with compatible handsets, which include the following Samsung models: the Galaxy S9, the S9+, the Note9, the S10e, the S10 and the S10+. The cellco says that it is working with other manufacturers to introduce additional VoLTE-capable devices further down the line. Movistar currently boasts 98% LTE coverage, and its 4G network is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 300Mbps.
TeleGeography notes that Movistar’s domestic rival Vodafone Spain drew first blood in the VoLTE stakes, activating the service back in July 2015. Orange Espana followed suit in November 2016.
