China Mobile deploys 20,000 5G base stations

China Mobile has deployed more than 20,000 5G base transceiver stations (BTS) in 52 key cities across the country, XinhuaNet reports. Of this figure, 3,500 towers have been deployed in Beijing, while 5G rollouts have commenced in around 300 cities. The mobile giant plans to launch commercial 5G services by the end of 2019 and has indicated that it will invest CNY24 billion (USD3.4 billion) in its network rollout.

TeleGeography notes that China Mobile was issued with a 5G licence comprising spectrum in the 2515MHz-2675MHz and 4800MHz-4900MHz frequency bands in June this year.
