Mobile network operator (MNO) XL Axiata says that its in-deployment 4G network is now live on Sumbawa Island, east of Lombok, pushing overall LTE coverage to 408 cities/districts in regions across Indonesia. The MNO’s network now comprises more than 127,000 base transceiver stations (BTS), including more than 53,000 3G BTS and more than 37,000 4G BTS. Further, the cellco is continuing to invest in fibre-optic networks, transmission, backhaul, network modernisation and other network upgrades to increase capacity and improve voice and data service quality.

Commenting on the latest service expansion, Mochamad Imam Mualim, the head of XL’s east region group, said: ‘The presence of XL Axiata 4G services in Sumbawa received a very positive reception from the local community. Evidently, traffic continues to increase to more than 95% in the last year. In addition to the increasing intensity of use by customers, the number of customers has also increased significantly. In fact, it can be said Sumbawa is an area with growth in data service usage above the average for the entire NTB region.’ The cellco’s LTE networks are currently live in all five cities/districts on this island and support both 3G and 4G technology.
