US mobile giant Verizon Wireless has announced that it will switch on its ‘5G Ultra Wideband’ service in a tenth city, Phoenix, Arizona today (23 August). Coverage will initially be available in and around Downtown Phoenix, encompassing landmarks such as the Phoenix Convention Center, the Talking Stick Resort Arena, the Orpheum Theatre, CityScape and Chase Field. It will also be available in Tempe, on the Arizona State University campus.
In other news, Verizon says that it is working with small cell and Wi-Fi provider Boingo Wireless to bring its 5G service indoors and to public spaces – places like airports, stadiums and arenas, office buildings and hotels. Verizon and Boingo are working together to architect a hyper-dense network designed for indoor spaces as part of Verizon’s ongoing 5G network expansion.
