Unifique agrees WBT takeover

14 Aug 2019

Brazilian regional ISP Unifique has announced the acquisition of fellow southern operator WBT, which is based in Sao Bento do Sul, in Santa Catarina. With the purchase, Unifique says that it will increase its customer base by 15,000 and add 400km of fibre to its 8,500km network. Founded in 2009, WBT serves rural homes and businesses in Sao Bento do Sul, Campo Alegre, Rio Negrinho (all Santa Catarina) and Pien (Parana).

For its part, Unifique was founded in Timbo, Santa Catarina in 1997, and today offers broadband connectivity to 116 municipalities across the state. The ISP says that the deal represents part of its growth strategy, which will see it pass one million homes with its infrastructure by 2025.
