Regional operator M-net has revealed that its fibre-optic network now passes 500,000 households and businesses in Munich. The company, which is a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Munchen (SWM), is aiming to increase fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network coverage to 620,000 homes by 2021, representing around 70% of households in the city. By July 2018 the FTTx footprint had reached 460,000 homes and during 2019 a further 52,000 will be upgraded.
M-net currently has a subscriber base of more than 470,000 and generated revenue of EUR255 million (USD285 million) in 2018, an increase of 5% year-on-year.
