Ecuador’s state-owned operator Corporacion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) has announced that nine foreign investment banks have expressed an interest in an upcoming tender to find a private sector partner to assume day-to-day operation control of the telco. The company had invited 23 banks to submit bids to assist the government with its plan to award a 20-year concession to operate CNT, with the aim of improving state revenues, as well as productivity, competitiveness, efficiency and innovation within the company.

The tender, which will be officially launched in the coming weeks, will award the winning investment bank responsibility for shaping CNT’s business model in order to ensure its sustainability and future growth. Under the plan, the state will retain 100% ownership of the telco but delegate operational responsibility to a private partner.
