Tiscali launches first rural fibre services under Open Fiber partnership

30 Jul 2019

Italian ISP Tiscali says it has launched fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services in its first 70 rural communities under a recently signed partnership with wholesale network operator Open Fiber. 95,000 premises in ten Italian regions are covered by the first phase of its service launch, with broadband access being provided at speeds of up to 1Gbps for EUR26.95 (USD30) a month under Tiscali’s UltraInternet Fibra product.

In May this year Tiscali agreed to utilise Open Fiber’s infrastructure in urban areas, and earlier this month the partnership was expanded to incorporate Open Fiber’s rural networks. The wholesale network operator plans to cover around 7,700 unserved and underserved communities across Italy with ultra-broadband networks using a combination of fibre and wireless technologies under a series of government-subsidised rollouts.
