NTT DOCOMO has reported that its quarterly operating revenues for the three months ended 30 June 2019 (Q1 FY20) reached JPY1.16 trillion (USD10.7 billion), down 1.5% from JPY1.18 trillion year-on-year. Operating profit also declined, by 10.1% to JPY278.72 billion, while profit attributed to NTT DOCOMO shareholders slumped 13.1% y-o-y to JPY192.39 billion from JPY221.32 billion; EBITDA was also down at JPY400.80 billion from JPY429.30 billion. First-quarter capital expenditure of JPY97.90 billion marked a significant reduction on the JPY124.90 billion invested in the year-ago quarter.
In operational terms, the provider reported 78.896 million mobile subscribers at 30 June 2019, up 3% from 76.746 million y-o-y, of which 57.285 million were LTE users (up from 51.344 million). ‘DOCOMO Hikari’-branded fibre-optic broadband subscribers, meanwhile, reached 5.988 million, up 18% compared to the 5.086 million year-ago figure. Mobile ARPU fell to JPY5,250 from JPY5,300 in June 2018, while Hikari ARPU improved to JPY530 from JPY440.
