Italian wholesale operator Open Fiber has contracted Athens-based wireless solutions provider Intracom Telecom to deploy a fixed-wireless access (FWA) system to support its rollouts in rural areas of Italy. Intracom will supply its WiBAS solution operating in the 26GHz-28GHz band, enabling Open Fiber to provide customers in rural areas with fibre-like connection speeds without the expense of deploying fibre infrastructure in hard-to-reach locations. Open Fiber has won three separate government tenders covering all Italian regions which call for it to provide broadband access to unserved and underserved regions of the country.
