Indian mobile provider Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has registered operating revenue of INR116.8 billion (USD1.7 billion) for the period ending 30 June 2019, up from INR81.1 billion a year earlier. EBITDA for the quarter increased by 48.9% year-on-year to INR46.9 billion, whilst net profit rose to INR8.91 billion from INR6.12 billion over the same period. The operator also added 24.5 million net new subscribers during the quarter, bringing its mobile customer base to 331.3 million at end-June, although ARPU continued to trend downwards, falling to INR122.0 from INR134.5 a year earlier. Commenting on the results, Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani was quoted as saying: ‘Growth in Jio mobility services has continued to surpass all expectations. In less than two years of commercial operations, Jio network carried almost eleven exabytes of data traffic during the recently concluded fiscal quarter. Jio management is focused on giving unmatched digital experience at most affordable price to every citizen of the country, and accordingly expanding the network capacity and coverage to keep pace with demand.’ Elsewhere, the operator noted that ‘beta trials’ of its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service JioGigaFiber were in their final stages, adding that ‘early signs have been very encouraging’.
