Hutch deploys NFV-based core network in Sri Lanka

19 Jul 2019

Hutchison Telecommunications Lanka (Hutch) has announced the successful deployment of a fully-fledged NFV (Network Function Virtualisation)-based core network in Sri Lanka. The cellco – 85%-owned by Hutchison Asia Telecommunications (HAT), itself a wholly owned division of CK Hutchison Holdings – says the new technology allows it to move out from a traditional hardware-based system and move to a more generic IT server for telecommunication services.

Hutch claims to be Sri Lanka’s fastest growing mobile telecommunications provider and says the deployment of an NFV-based platform helps to consolidate its position in the market by upgrading its high-tech hub located in Walpola to a fully modernised facility. Hutch will also be deploying an advanced converged billing system (CvBS) in the country, allowing post-pay and pre-paid billing systems to run on a single platform.
