Slovak mobile operator SWAN Mobile, which trades under the brand 4ka, says it has conducted the country’s first 5G video call in conjunction with equipment partner ZTE. Using 60MHz of bandwidth in the 3.7GHz band, as well as frequencies in the 1800MHz range, 4ka demonstrated download speeds of up to 1Gbps using the ZTE AXON 10 Pro 5G smartphone.

Roman Vavrik, CEO of SWAN, commented: ‘With the issuing of 5G licenses, the 5G era has now arrived in Slovakia. We hope to cooperate with ZTE to provide leading 5G applications and services to Slovakian users as soon as possible.’

According to a report from Zive, the executive is also expecting Slovakia’s four cellcos to cooperate on the rollout of 5G in order to achieve nationwide coverage. ‘I cannot say that such an agreement exists today, but it is the only way to bring 5G to Slovaks. The only way for 5G [to succeed] is to work with multiple operators,’ he said.
