Russian mobile operator MegaFon has completed the acquisition of Neosprint’s assets in St Petersburg, under an agreement approved by its board last year. Neosprint’s 3.5GHz frequencies are suitable for supporting 5G services pending government permission, with MegaFon intending to pool its frequency resources into its start-up 5G infrastructure joint venture with Rostelecom, New Digital Solutions. CNews reports that the St Petersburg acquisition was wrapped up for RUB300 million (USD4.8 million). TeleGeography notes that in April 2018 MegaFon acquired 100% of Neosprint (Moscow), which held one-third (24MHz) of the commercial 3.4GHz-3.6GHz band in the capital, for around RUB720 million.
