Ukrtelecom village GPON rollout picks up speed

Ukrainian nationwide fixed telco Ukrtelecom has connected 65 villages and small towns to its GPON fibre broadband network in the first phase of a rollout which will encompass in total around 300 rural settlements via nearly 3.500km of fibre-optics. The operator highlights that in 26 of the newly hooked-up villages, there was previously no high speed internet facilities. GPON subscribers are promised fibre internet speeds of up to 200Mbps alongside IPTV and IP telephony.

In the first phase, Ukrtelecom and technology partner Iskratel are carrying out works in 16 regions: Zaporizhia, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rovno, Khmelnytsky, Chernivtsi, Nikolaev, Odessa, Kherson, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Chernihiv.
