Germany approves use of 700MHz spectrum for mobile rollout

5 Jul 2019

Germany’s Federal Network Agency (FNA, known locally as the Bundesnetzagentur or BNetzA) has approved the use of the 700MHz frequency band for mobile communications from this month. The spectrum was auctioned off back in 2015, but mobile operators have not been able to use it due to the gradual migration of terrestrial TV to digital broadcasting services. As the process has now been completed, the FNA says 700MHz licence holders can use the spectrum to expand high speed mobile broadband services to rural and unserved areas.
