Azerfon’s LTE user base doubles to 700,000

2 Jul 2019

Azerfon (Nar), Azerbaijan’s third largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has announced that its LTE user base has doubled to 700,000 during the past year. The increase was made possible by the installation of new base transceiver stations (BTS) across the country, new bundles and tariffs, as well as the growth of 4G smartphone penetration. The company notes that over 25% of Nar’s roughly 2.3 million subscribers now use 4G internet, with 71% of users resident in Baku.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Azerfon installed an additional 800 LTE BTS during 2018 to take the total number of 4G cell sites to over 1,700, while another 700 are planned for 2019. The MNO’s LTE network now extends to 47 regions, while its total network covers 97% of the country’s territory.
