TT-Netvaerket, the 50/50 joint venture between Danish operators Telia and Telenor, has announced the activation of 5G masts in Aalborg (Telenor) and Copenhagen (Telia), with live tests of the 5G infrastructure (supplied by Nokia) set to commence soon. Telia’s 5G mast will initially be part of a closed network, while Telenor will test the quality and capacity of 5G technology before the technology is gradually rolled out into the operator’s common mobile network over the coming years. Telia will use the 3.5GHz frequency band for the upcoming tests, though with spectrum in that band not expected to be commercially available until 2020, the trials will be carried out on time-limited frequency permits from the Danish Energy Agency (DEA).
