Vodafone extends 5G coverage, launches first subscriptions

27 Jun 2019

Vodafone Romania, the country’s second largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, has launched what it claims to be the country’s first 5G subscription plans, reports Romania-insider.com. The Red Infinity 17 and Red Infinity 25 tariffs provide an unlimited data allowance over the company’s Supernet 5G network, which was initially activated in Bucharest on 16 May and has now been extended to Cluj-Napoca and the Black Sea resort of Mamaia. ‘This speaks about our commitment to being at the forefront of innovation not only locally, but also globally and making sure that the Romanian users get the opportunity to experience leading technologies,’ said Mostafa El Beltagy, Director Customer Business Unit, Vodafone Romania.

According to the report, operators are unhappy with the high prices the Romanian government has set for 5G spectrum scheduled for auction in late 2019, prompting some to suggest they could try to deploy initial services using existing frequencies.
