TIM finally confirms Open Fiber negotiations

21 Jun 2019

Telecom Italia (TIM) has confirmed that it has signed a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) and Enel aimed at starting discussions to evaluate possible forms of integration between TIM and Open Fiber. State lender CDP co-owns wholesale operator Open Fiber alongside utility group Enel, while CDP also has a stake in TIM. There has been speculation for some time that the fibre networks of the two telcos could be combined to create a single national infrastructure firm.

According to TIM’s statement: ‘The objective of the discussions is to verify the feasibility of such operation, the related procedures and the perimeter of activity subject to a possible agreement, based on the will of the parties and on the legislative and regulatory frameworks.’
