MegaFon, Qualcomm and Nokia claim Russian smartphone speed record

20 Jun 2019

Russian mobile operator MegaFon has claimed a national record data speed on a smartphone of 1.6Gbps using its commercial LTE network. The Gigabit LTE demonstration at MegaFon’s offices used Nokia AirScale base station equipment with MIMO 4×4 technology and MegaFon’s aggregated spectrum in the bands LTE-2600 (2×20MHz), LTE-1800 (1×20MHz plus 1×10MHz) and LTE-2100 (1×15MHz). A test mobile device was used based on Qualcomm Snapdragon technology.

MegaFon noted that such developments are in response to growing demands on its network. In the first quarter of 2019 its customers used an average of 10.7GB of internet traffic, up 27.6% year-on-year.
