Wireless Logic Group, a strategic M2M partner of KPN in the Netherlands, has acquired Dutch IoT connectivity specialist SIMPoint as it looks to expand its footprint in Europe with connectivity over cellular mobile and LoRa networks. SIMPoint delivers M2M connectivity solutions based on 2G/3G/4G and LoRa technologies, offering customised data plans, variable durations, extended security (VPNs and customised APNs) and control for customers via its own customer portal. It claims over 4,000 customers across a wide range of industry verticals.

Nurlink has tested its NK6010 NB-IoT System-on-Chip (SoC) on the China Telecom NB-IoT network, connecting to China Telecom’s Cloud IoT Platform. The new SoC is based on CEVA Dragonfly NB2 IP technology. ‘CEVA is committed to ensuring that NB-IoT is the long-range connectivity standard-of-choice for IoT devices by offering a comprehensive NB-IoT IP solution that significantly lowers the entry barriers for companies looking to integrate this technology into their SoC designs,’ said Ange Aznar, manager of the Wireless IoT Business Unit at CEVA.

In Australia, NNNCo is using its LoRaWAN network to monitor water pressure/flow for utility firm Hunter Water. In a trial, 30 sensors are monitoring in real time across 25km of pipe mains and five water flow meters. NNNCo’s N-sen device provides connectivity on the network, sending alerts to enable the utility to prevent pipe bursts and mend leaks.

US IoT network-as-a-service (NaaS) provider Puloli and Select Spectrum have launched what they claim to be the world’s first private standalone LTE NB-IoT network purpose-built for critical infrastructure industries. The network has gone live this month with coverage of northern Florida’s major population centres, using Upper 700MHz ‘A’ Block spectrum, with the first clients including a utility group and a communications service provider.

US satellite TV giant DISH has launched a consumer smart home products brand, OnTech Smart Services, providing professional installation, set-up and advice with the latest smart home devices and entertainment systems, currently available in eleven major US cities. Note that DISH is in the process of planning an NB-IoT network rollout.
