Germany falls short of 50Mbps broadband target

19 Jun 2019

The federal government has confirmed that it missed its broadband target to ensure download speeds of at least 50Mbps for the whole country by the end of 2018. Handelsblatt quotes Parliamentary State Secretary Steffen Bilger as saying that around 88% of German households could access those speeds by the end of last year. The government has set a new goal under its Gigabit Germany initiative, which aims to have in place gigabit-capable converged infrastructure by 2025.
