Beeline in talks to join MegaFon, Rostelecom in 5G infrastructure sharing venture

Russian cellco Beeline (PJSC VimpelCom) is in negotiations with rival mobile provider MegaFon and fixed line giant Rostelecom on the possibility of joining the Rostelecom/MegaFon 5G infrastructure sharing joint venture, New Digital Solutions, reports ComNews. Rostelecom – which is the part-owner of cellco Tele2 Russia – is also working with state corporation Rostec to develop a 5G technology roadmap. Rostelecom’s president Mikhail Oseevsky told reporters after the telco’s annual general meeting of shareholders: ‘We are now in an active stage of negotiations with VimpelCom,’ whilst adding: ‘The Rostec and Rostelecom roadmap will contain the concept of creating the network itself, the stages of 5G development, frequency issues, organisational decisions for the development of a promising communication generation and import substitution policy.’
