The government of Brazil has said it does not intend to restrict the use of Huawei equipment in future 5G networks, despite calls from the US to avoid the vendor on security grounds. Reuters cites Brazil’s Vice President, Hamilton Mourao, as saying that Huawei will not be excluded from competing for 5G equipment contracts, but it must ‘play fair’. On a trip to China, Mourao was quoted as saying: ‘I have spoken clearly with the CEO of Huawei, and told him they have to give us confidence that … the data they have will not be put in the hands of the Chinese [government].’
