IDB Invest, a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, has provided Telecom Argentina with a USD300 million financial package to assist with the company’s strategic investment plan. The two parties have confirmed that the funding will be used to expand the telco’s HFC cable, fibre-optic and LTE networks.
TeleGeography notes that Telecom Argentina (including Cablevision) is the largest fixed broadband operator in the country by subscribers, claiming a 47.9% market share at end-March 2019. Cellular unit Telecom Personal is the country’s third largest mobile operator, meanwhile, but is understood to preside over the most expansive 4G footprint. The group also has a presence in Paraguay (mobile) and Uruguay (cable TV).
