Monaco Telecom to proceed with 5G launch this summer using Huawei technology

3 Jun 2019

Monaco Telecom, the principality’s sole mobile network, intends to proceed with its planned launch of 5G services this summer, despite security concerns surrounding its technology partner Huawei, reports universfreebox.com. ‘When you have such a large supplier that’s subject to restrictions, it is of course a cause for concern, but for the moment we have no plans to change the schedule,’ the cellco’s CEO Martin Peronnet said, adding that the company is working with the state digital security agency to ‘systematically isolate’ each component within the network.

As previously reported by TeleGeography, Monaco Telecom began testing 5G technology in September 2018 after agreeing an equipment supply deal with Huawei. This was followed by a second agreement in February 2019 as part of Monaco’s ‘5G Smart Nation’ project, which aims to develop IoT, Big Data and cloud-based solutions in order to offer residents a wide range of new services.
