Dutch decision on multi-band auction delayed again, this time over pricing

30 May 2019

The government of the Netherlands has again delayed the publication of its mobile communications policy white paper, including plans for upcoming 4G/5G spectrum auctions, this time because the Ministry of Finance has requested additional research into minimum licence bidding prices, reports Dutch-based Telecompaper.

Auctions in the 700MHz, 1400MHz and 2100MHz bands are provisionally scheduled for late 2019 or early 2020, although the prospective date is becoming less certain. A 3.5GHz band auction is mooted for the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022. Once the government’s long-delayed Mobile Communications Memorandum is finalised, a step-by-step plan for the auctions can be devised.
