TIM Brasil to trial 5G in Florianopolis with Huawei

TIM Participacoes (TIM Brasil) has announced that it will stage its first 5G trials in Florianopolis, using the 3.5GHz band. The tests will be carried out with Chinese vendor Huawei, as the operator seeks to explore applications related to smart cities, smart agriculture, self-driving cars and virtual reality. Going forward, TIM Brasil notes that it also intends to trial 5G in Santa Rita do Sapucai with Ericsson and hold tests in Campina Grande, in association with Nokia. The cellco expects to commercialise 5G technology from 2021.
