Londrina City Council votes to privatise Sercomtel

28 May 2019

The City Council of Londrina – which holds a 50.88% stake in regional Brazilian telecoms operator Sercomtel – has voted to privatise the telco after an 18-1 vote in favour of the proposal. According to local news site Folha de Londrina, the privatisation process has been prioritised because the telco’s licences are due to expire on 23 July, and there are fears over job losses. The stake is said to be valued at BRL120 million (USD29.8 million), based on the recommendations of the National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel).

TeleGeography notes that regional power company power company Companhia Paranaense de Energia (Copel) holds a 45.00% stake in the company, with the remaining 4.12% distributed between unnamed shareholders.
