MTS revenues climb 9.4% in 1Q19

Russian telecoms group Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) reported that its consolidated group revenues in the first quarter of 2019 increased by 9.4% year-on-year to RUB118.0 billion (USD1.82 billion), with group operating income before depreciation and amortisation (OIBDA) rising 6.0% to RUB55.3 billion and net profit climbing 14.1% to RUB17.6 billion. MTS’ revenue in Russia in Q1 2019 increased by 7.9% y-o-y to RUB109.1 billion (representing 92.5% of group turnover), boosted by increasing consumption of mobile internet/data services and growth in smartphone sales (with revenue from the sale of handsets and equipment up 8.5% to RUB12.5 billion). Russian OIBDA grew by 4.2% to RUB51.7 billion although the OIBDA margin fell y-o-y from 49.1% to 47.4%. MTS’ mobile customers (including M2M/IoT connections) in Russia dropped by 0.7% y-o-y to 77.6 million at 31 March 2019.
