Airtel Nigeria, the local mobile unit of Indian telecoms group Bharti Airtel, has expanded its LTE network to Owerri, the capital of Imo State. The expansion follows 4G launches in Enugu, Uyo and Edo State earlier this month. ‘This is not just the launch of 4G in Owerri, but a total modernisation of the Airtel network infrastructure in Imo State with new and innovative offerings that will empower and offer real value to the great people of this state,’ local newspaper The Sun quotes CEO Segun Ogunsanya as saying.
Airtel announced the commercial launch of LTE services in Ibadan in February 2018, using spectrum in the 1800MHz band. The network, which offers downlink speeds of between 35Mbps and 40Mbps, was expanded to a second city – Abuja – in May 2018 and reached around 60 towns and cities across 16 states by October 2018, including Lagos.
