Videotron switches on 5G test site in Montreal

10 May 2019

Quebec-based cableco and mobile operator Videotron and its partners in the Open-Air Laboratory for Smart Living (LabVI) have announced that a 5G testing site is now live in Montreal’s Quartier de l’innovation using Ericsson equipment, reports MobileSyrup. The site – utilising an existing 4G LTE site on the roof of the Ecole de Technologie Superieure – is equipped with a 5G antenna, enabling faster data speeds on mobile devices, coverage improvements, increased bandwidth and reduced latency. Videotron’s vice-president Serge Legris said: ‘We want to give the scientific community and start-ups the opportunity to test actual applications and projects at LabVI by making the connectivity of the future available to them.’
